The Severe Asthma Questionnaire (SAQ) is designed to measure quality of life in people with severe asthma. Unlike existing measures the new SAQ is designed to measure the impact of asthma symptoms and the side effects of asthma medication, including those of oral corticosteroids.
THE SAQ HAS HAD ONLY PRELIMINARY VALIDATION AND FULL DOMAIN SCORING DETAILS WILL BE ANNONCED LATER. WHILE THE SAQ MAY BE USED NOW IN CLINICAL MEDICINE, IF IT IS TO BE USED IN RESEARCH STUDIES PLEASE CONTACT THE AUTHORS.
The questionnaire was derived with major patient input and the design and wording also involved formal patient and expert advice for use in severe asthma and the process follow FDA guidance. The questionnaire has potential for use to measure quality of life in other diseases in future, in particular when it is desirable to measure the steroid sparing benefits of new treatments.
